Tempting Tanya (NSFW #3) by C.C. Wood

Jordan Hawke is the one temptation that Tanya Blake can't resist.

Two years ago, the cynical attorney wasn't interested in relationships. Tanya only wanted a fling with the sexy British lawyer. Then she made the mistake of falling in love with him. She was shattered when he left for a job in New York and decided she learned her lesson. Never again would she allow herself to be vulnerable.

She moved on and built an impenetrable wall around her wounded heart.

When Jordan returns to Dallas to take a position at the law firm where she works, he makes it clear that he wants to pick up where they left off. Tanya refuses, determined to protect herself from more pain.

But Jordan won't give up so easily. In fact, he plans to use whatever means necessary to draw Tanya back into his life and his bed. She's not the only one who made a mistake two years ago and he will do whatever it takes to make it right.

This group of women in the NSFW series are a lot of fun. The novellas are relatively short, but they pack in a lot and the women who make up this group of friends are the kind you try to make your whole life.

This book centers on Tanya, of course, and Jordan.

They have some history.

It was good… until it ended rather abruptly.

Unfortunately, neither Tanya or Jordan are really good at expressing themselves unless it’s something to do with their jobs as divorce attorneys. Also unfortunately, their chosen profession doesn’t exactly paint the most flattering picture of the blissful state of matrimony.  I did think it was ironic that Tanya makes an observation that a lot of the marriages could have been saved by just talking to their partner. Too bad she and Jordan don’t test that theory out.

Sadly, not only don’t they talk to each other but they’re both runners.

Which is why, although I love the series, Tanya and Jordan are not my favorite couple of the first three books. In Jordan and Tanya’s past, Jordan cut and run without warning. And Tanya let him. I was disappointed in both of them. So, when they reconnected years later, I really hoped that they had grown a little and learned from their mistakes.

 Not so much.

Jordan confused me. He seemed like he wanted Tanya back but he didn’t seem real driven towards actually convincing her. Granted, she never told him she loved him before, but he just came across as kind of blasé about their relationship. I got the impression from the synopsis that he was willing to do anything to get her back, but he just seemed to coast.

I understood and sympathized with Tanya more. She had just realized that she was in love with the man before he coolly announced he was leaving her and the city for a new job. I think I’d be a little hesitant to open myself back up to him again too. I might have felt a little differently if I knew whether he continued to date and see other women while they were apart. But, we don’t get any mention of Jordan’s life away from Tanya so I don’t have anything to point to that makes me more willing to feel like he regretted his past decisions.

Still, it’s a good installment in the NSFW series and it was like catching up with old friends Lucy, Yancy and the rest.

A quick, hot read that’s worth the time, but it didn’t really grab me like the first two novellas.
