The Fall Up (The Fall Up #1) by Aly Martinez

The Fall Up (The Fall Up #1) by Aly Martinez

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

I can’t believe I let this book get lost in my TBR book Hell!

I really expected it to be a lot darker than it ended up being. Honestly, with the subject matter, it almost had to be a little dark when Levee and Sam meet while deciding whether to take a dive from the Golden Gate Bridge… I think the title, The Fall Up, and that gorgeous cover is genius because it completely embodies the feelings these two people recognize in each other. The slow build between Sam and Levee was so skillfully and subtly done that you don’t even notice the relationship growing until it was right there in front of you.

Even though the slowly growing relationship was good, Levee taking her life back from the chaos of her career and the unrealistic demands she’s placed on herself was probably my favorite part of this book! I wanted her to make it and get the fuck off that bridge! I wanted to find out why she continued to show up there every night and I wanted her friends and family to see that she needed some help! Her bodyguard Devon? Useless… Sam seemed like the only one who saw that she was struggling and I had a few nail biting moments when I thought that Sam wasn’t going to be able to help Levee… it was tense.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom.  There was a ton of humor laced through this… Evan was funny as Hell and often acted as Levee’s life line when she needed it most before Sam came into the picture. You get more of his story in the follow up book The Spiral Down. I laughed out loud pretty much any time Sam and Evan interacted…

So, yes, the story has a dark beginning, but in the end, it’s just two people who are looking for a reason to not to fall. I honestly can’t think of a single thing about this book that I didn’t like.  This book just made me happy.
