The Unyielding (Call of Crows #3) by Shelly Laurenston

The Unyielding (Call of Crows #3) by Shelly Laurenston

Stieg Engstrom, Angriest Viking Ever, has got big problems. The human Viking Clans of earth are in danger of being obliterated—along with the rest of the world—and the only one who may be able to save them is a super pain-in-the-ass Crow. Most people annoy Stieg, but this is the one woman he really can’t stand…

Erin Amsel loves being a Crow! Why wouldn’t she when the other Viking Clans are so hilariously arrogant and humorless? She’s not about to let all that come to an end! She just didn’t expect to be shoulder to shoulder in battle with Stieg. Then again, he’s so easy to torment—and also kind of cute.

With the future of the world riding on them, Stieg knows he’ll have to put aside his desperate need to kiss the smirk right off Erin’s face. Wait. What? He didn’t mean that—did he? No! They have one goal: To conquer the idiots. Because nothing bugs Stieg more than when idiots win. If only he can keep himself from suddenly acting like one….

Pet’s $0.02

Erin….well, Erin is kind of a dick.

Which is exactly why I love her and why this book is so damn much fun to read. Plus, there are so many naughty gods popping up in this book, you can’t help but have fun reading it.

Wonderfully, Erin has no filter and gives no fucks, and Steig does not put up with bullshit. Neither of them gave the other any leeway and they each call the other out on their asshattery. There were so many times their conversations made me laugh out loud. I mean, how can you not love a Viking who has a pet screaming goat and names his penis Jackie the Man? Or a Crow who names her vagina Lady HappyKitty who purrs when you pet her? There was so much shit going on and Ragnarok to stop and I still just wanted to get back to Erin and Steig.

Of course there is the ever present threat of Ragnarok actually coming to pass, the inherent hatred between the clans to work through, internal clan struggles and infighting and a quest to deal with. So much fucking fun! But, the tests that both are put through will keep you glued to the pages and I’m pretty sure the final resolution is going to surprise you as much as it did me.

I always thought that Laurenston’s Pride shifter series was my favorite but her Call of Crows series has knocked that out of the park. I learn so much from her books. But I have to warn you that there are going to be a fuck ton of Nordic names that you’re never going to figure out how to pronounce…just recognize them, pronounce them how you think they should be and move on. You’ll be happier that way.
