Happy Trail: Lucas Brothers 3 (Lucas Brothers #2.5) by Jordan Marie

The Path to True Love Can Be A Little Hairy.

Petal

I’ve loved Luka Fields my entire life.
He was my first crush, my first kiss, my first time, and my first heartbreak.
Love isn’t like in the movies, or the books you read.
It’s hard, sometimes it’s just plain doomed.
Have you ever been forced to make a choice that you hate?
One you regret the minute you make it and wish you could take back?
I have—my biggest regret is not fighting for Luka.

But when I see him with another woman, one thing becomes clear.
I have to get him back and I’ll do anything I can to make that happen.

Luka

Petal was the love of my life.
Losing her nearly destroyed me.
I’ve tried to make her see that we need to work things out.
It didn’t work and as much as I love her, a man gets tired being alone.
It’s time to move on.

Except once I make that decision, it seems I’m running into Petal everywhere—especially my bed.
Do I trust that this time she’ll put me first? Do I give us a second chance?
It’s hard to say no when she’s making every fantasy I ever had come true.

A woman in love, determined to win back her man.
A man, coming to terms with the past and moving toward his future.
Who will win?
With any luck, maybe they both will.

Pet’s $0.02

This is the third book in a new series by Jordan Marie that centers around the Lucas brothers. So, it’s kind of funny that the book I like the most so far is this one that has one of the Lucas sisters as the Lucas connection.

The relationship between Luka and Petal was always going to be a tough one to work through. Petal started out the relationship by lying to Luka…about everything.  And Luka isn’t a real forgiving kind of man. He may not have intentionally held her past mistakes against her, but he makes Petal pay for those mistakes, made at the ripe old age of 16, every single day of their marriage. Is it any wonder it ended in divorce?

But, that’s just the jump off point for their story.

I hated how Luka treated Petal. It made me cringe to find out Luka and Petal are attempting to move on with their lives when it’s obvious to everyone around them that’s the last thing they want. But, when you add in bad blood between Luka and Petal’s mom, Ida Sue, and the overall ugliness that is Luka’s dad, you’ll start to think Luka and Petal being separated might be the best for all parties involved. I didn’t see how they were going to work through some of the shit they had going against them.

The one thing what saves the books in this series for me is, that while the men in them start out as real assholes, they tend to go all in once they’ve pulled said head from said ass. Jordan surprised me with her ability to turn my opinion around for each and every one of these men. But, she pulls it off and I can’t wait to see if she can continue to make the rest of the brothers just as loveable.
