The Beauty of Us (Fusion #4) by Kristen Proby

Riley Gibson is over the moon at the prospect of having her restaurant, Seduction, on the Best Bites TV network. This could be the big break she’s been waiting for. But the idea of having an in-house show on a regular basis is a whole other matter. Their lives would be turned upside down, and convincing Mia, her best friend and head chef of Seduction, that having cameras in her kitchen every day is a good idea is daunting. Still, Riley knows it’s an opportunity she can’t afford to pass on. And when she meets Trevor Cooper, the show’s executive producer, she’s stunned by their intense chemistry.

Trevor’s sole intention is to persuade Riley to allow Best Bites TV to do a show on her restaurant. But when he walks into Riley’s office, he stops dead in his tracks. The professional, aloof woman on the phone is incredibly beautiful and funny. But can he convince her that he’s interested in Riley for himself? Or is he using the undeniable pull between them to persuade her to agree to his offer?

The Fusion series is probably my favorite series Proby has given us since the With Me in Seattle series. It’s filled with hard working women who have carved out a place for themselves in an industry that sees more failure than success and they do it while still managing to stay the closest of friends.

In my opinion, Riley is the least flashy of the five friends in this series, and the most likable. She doesn’t have a signature style. She doesn’t even have a horrible, or even necessarily bad, past she has to overcome. And her job isn’t flashy like Meg’s or Kat’s. She does her job, she’s fucking good at it, and while she would love to find someone special to share her life with, she’s not actively seeking it out.

Trevor has way more drama in his life than Riley does, which is kind of a refreshing change. I loved how sweet he was with Riley.  What he does well is he’s open and honest with Riley. He doesn’t hide shit, hoping it will go away. At least it starts that way….unfortunately, he falls into the trap a lot of people do, which is assuming Riley just knows what he’s thinking…

I’ve been told that’s usually a trait women hold reign over. Who knew?

But he does come with some baggage. He has a bitch of an ex-wife and crazy stalker girl drama going on, which would be daunting for any woman to take on. That Riley is even open to putting up with some of the shenanigans those two get up to just shows what a class act she is.

This is a sweet story, with just a little bit of drama to spice it up and two incredibly likeable characters. There’s only one book left in the series after this one, and Kristen is going to have to go all out to oust Riley and Trevor as my favorites. I don’t think she can, but I’m looking forward to her trying.
